Take an unforgettable 3-day tour through the amazing Uyuni salt flats in a comfortable 4x4 with an experienced driver who will also be your tour guide assisting you the whole trip. Travel into the desert of southwest Bolivia visiting tiny villages, multicolored lakes filled with flamingos, geysers, and thermal hot-springs. You will be staying at basic hostels as this is the only available options in these remote regions of the beautiful Andean landscapes of Uyuni but you also have an option to upgrade to private rooms and bathrooms with hot showers. There is also an option to request an English-speaking driver. This tour starts in Uyuni and ends in Uyuni.

Day 1: UYUNI SALT FLATS + SALT HOTEL

  • Entrance to Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve (150 bolivianos per person).

  • Entrance to Incahuasi Island (30 bolivianos per person).
  • Access to toilets on the way (approximately 6 bolivianos each acces).
  • Health insurance.

Important: Your passport must have 6-month validity at the time of entry. If entering Bolivia from Peru then the passport you use must be the same passport used to enter Peru. If you have dual citizenship, you cannot switch passports at the Bolivian Border. You may also need a visa if you are a passport holder from countries from Group 2 or Group 3.

DAY 1

We leave from Uyuni in the morning around 10.00 am. And the first visit is the Train Cemetery where you can see the old rusting locomotives. After this we continue to Colchani Village and witness how the salt is processed and then move onto the salt flats themselves. We will see where the salt has been laced in mounds ready to be transported, then we visit the Playa Blanca salt Museum, where we will see the Salt Dakar Monument and the flags of different countries (we have lunch) and we continue to the middle of the Salt flats where we have time for the funny pictures after we go to the Incahuasi Island to see the giant cactuses and have great views of the salt flats all around. (we visit the Island only in the dry Season) There will be plenty of time for taking amazing photos if time allows, you might also have the chance to see the sunset on the salt flats (this depends on season and cannot be guaranteed, but is usually possible). After we will continue our trip to Colcha K. Village where we will spend the night in a Salt hotel private room (2 or 3 people each room). (we have dinner).

DAY 2

At 07.30 (right after breakfast) we will visit salar de Chiguana and the lookout Ollague volcano which is semi active. Afterwards we will see some small lakes like Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, where we can observe many flamingos. Then we will have a nutritious lunch. Alter lunch we will drive through the Siloli desert where we will find the Stone tree. Next stop is the spectacular Laguna Colorada (red coloured lake) where we can spot 3 different species of flamingos. After visiting Laguna Colorada and we continue to the huayllajara Village where we spend on the second night in a shared room with shared bathroom. Dinner is then served.

DAY 3

Today we departure at 5.00 a.m. we will go to the geysers of Sol de Mañana with the volcanic activity with of 4850 meters above sea level and we continue to the Polques hot springs where we can go to the swimming pool to take a thermal bath and having the best experience of our trip (the temperature of the water is approx. 37 degrees Celsius) then we wil go to the desert of Salvador Dali where we can enjoy the view of surreal landscapes. From there on we will go on to Laguna Verde, (green lake) although Laguna Verde is not that green early in the morning because the color depends the wind that removes the minerals.

We are really close to the Chilean border now. People traveling onwards to San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) will take transport from here to San Pedro (around 09.30 AM but subject to change) by either public touristic bus. The bus will arrive in San Pedro around 12.00 / 12.30. The people returning to Uyuni will take the same way back to Uyuni, we have lunch in Villa Mar village we continue to San Cristobal with its picturesque colonial church. We will be back in Uyuni around 17.30. perfectly on time if having a late flight or an overnight bus back to La Paz.

  • Comfortable and warm clothing. Sleeping bag recommended to keep warm.
  • Comfortable shoes (ideally trekking shoes).
  • Swimsuit and towel (for Polques Hot Springs).
  • Sunglasses.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Toiletries.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Flashlight.
  • Water (1 liter per person for the first day. The rest of the days you can buy on the way).
  • Passport or ID card. If you are a foreigner resident in Chile you must take both to show them at customs.
  • Between Bs. 350 and Bs. 500 for expenses not included on the tour (entrance fees, taxes, bathroom, water and souvenirs, among others).

This tour is made above 13,000 feet of altitude and in a narrow vehicle, therefore the following people are not allowed to participate:

  • Children until the age of 6.
  • Adults over the age of 65.
  • People that weigh more than 100 kg
  • Pregnant women.
  • People with high blood pressure, heart failure, asthma or similar.
